Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
This May 24th, 2024, St. Paul University at San Miguel conducted the graduation ceremony for its National Service Training Program (NSTP) students A.Y. 2022-2023. This ceremony culminated the students’ dedication to their civic duties and Paulinian responsibility, as they underwent community involvement and service under the NSTP’s Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS). In compliance with Republic Act 9163, the NSTP aims to enhance civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism. St. Paul University's NSTP program is designed to mold students into responsible citizens, instilling in them a sense of duty and commitment to the well-being of their communities. The students participated in included clean-up drives and outreach programs to adopted communities of the university, showcasing their dedication to environmental awareness and community engagement. They demonstrated their CHARISM by being creative and resilient visionaries, initiating and participating in projects that showcased innovative solutions to community problems.
The students began with an internal clean-up drive, where they not only cleaned the university grounds but also planted calamansi trees, to amplify their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. This was followed by a gift-giving initiative at Biak na Bato, where they conducted a Clean-Up Drive, a Dengue Awareness Program, a Feeding Program, and Gift-Giving activities. These efforts demonstrated the students' ability to engage with the community, promote health awareness, and provide support to those in need. The COMMISSION to become competent and reliable experts was evident in ensuring that their efforts were impactful and sustainable. The students' community involvement did not stop there. They took part in the university's external initiatives at Sta. Ines and Mandile, further expanding their reach and impact. They also participated in several other sanitation clean-up initiatives, including one on the morning of their graduation, where they cleaned the college building in preparation for the upcoming school year. According to Sarah Gamboa, an NSTP AY 2022-2023 graduate, these initiatives have been profound in helping her embrace their civic duty. By getting exposed outside the campus walls and engaging with the community, they were able to understand the mission and vision of the university and the purpose of the NSTP. Rundell Dave Salvador, from BSED Math stated that it helped him take on his responsibility of partaking in his civic duty, as he sees students act and collaborate together for the goal of the program.
Following the teachings of Matthew 5:16, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven," the NSTP students have truly let their light shine through their community service. They have embraced their role as CHRIST-CENTERED ethical leaders, actively promoting environmental awareness and responsibility. The university's dedication to the NSTP program demonstrates its commitment to nurturing graduates who are both academically excellent and socially responsible. These students have built a strong sense of COMMUNITY by working collaboratively, fostering trust, and mentoring one another. Their CHARITY, driven by compassion and dedication, have transformed the lives of those around them and exemplified true stewardship of creation.
By merging academic learning with practical experience, St. Paul University at San Miguel prepares its students to be well-rounded individuals who embody the Paulinian spirit and fulfill their civic duties with integrity and compassion in the years to come.
