After minutes of ride, SPUSM Kolehiyo finally arrived at Mandile (Tagalog), San Miguel, Bulacan– armed with gloves, sacks, walis tingting, and rakes, the students proceeded to a clean-up drive beneath the Mandile Bridge.
The day began with a heartfelt prayer, uniting the students in their shared mission to serve the community of Brgy. Mandile. With heads bowed and hearts open, they sought guidance and blessings, embracing the CHRIST-CENTERED values that underpin their actions. This area, often neglected, had accumulated a significant amount of litter. The students diligently picked up the trash, segregating it as they went along to ensure proper disposal and recycling. This activity not only helped in improving the local environment but also raised awareness about the importance of waste management and environmental stewardship. This clean-up drive supports SDG 15: Life on Land, emphasizing the need to manage waste responsibly to protect our natural resources. By the end of the morning, the once littered area was transformed, showcasing the students' dedication and hard work. The clean-up drive served as a powerful reminder of the impact that collective action can have on the COMMUNITY, demonstrating the Paulinian core value.
Following the clean-up drive, residents of Brgy. Mandile attended a disaster preparedness seminar. It was an essential component of the initiative, aimed to enhance the community's resilience in the face of natural disasters. Mr. Ryan Jeffrey Santos, Security Officer ll from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), provided the residents with valuable knowledge on how to respond effectively in emergencies like typhoons and floods, ensuring that the community is better equipped to protect lives and property when disaster strikes, thus contributing to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). The seminar covered topics such as emergency preparedness, safety measures, and importance of community cooperation during disasters. By empowering residents with knowledge and skills to respond effectively to disasters, they fulfilled their COMMISSION to be stewards of God's creation. Additionally, their commitment to building a resilient community aligns with the Paulinian CHARISM of service and compassion, embodying the spirit of unity and cooperation in the face of adversity.
During the disaster preparedness seminar, organizers' proceeded to conduct a feeding program by serving nutritious "Lugaw Itlog" to elementary students and participants of disaster preparedness seminar. They carefully planned and prepared the meal, ensuring smooth distribution. The feeding program showed the college students commitment to community service and provided valuable nourishment and support to the Mandile's community, exemplifying the principle of CHARITY by demonstrating a selfless commitment to serving others in need. This initiative was part of their effort to contribute to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by ensuring that even the most vulnerable members of the community have access to healthy food.
The event concluded with a sense of accomplishment and renewed commitment among the Paulinian students to continue advocating for environmental stewardship and sustainability. These outreach programs not only improved the local environment but also set an example for peers and community members, showcasing the power of collective action in achieving a cleaner, healthier world. Together, we have made a significant impact, showing that when a community comes together, great things can be achieved.
