COURSE GROUP MEETING

(JCL, Kensly Valiente Ligon and Hannah Lei Viudez)

Apr 22, 2024

As the month of April is about to conclude, the Tertiary Department of St. Paul University at San Miguel held a Course-Group meeting headed by the College Coordinator– Mr. Jose C. Lazaro Jr.

The meeting was started by an opening prayer and followed by a few reminders that concerned the quality education of Paulinians. Finally, Mr. Lazaro discussed the core of the session that focuses on the Internal and External culminating activities in this coming month of May that highly recognized the Paulinian Core values and 9 Sustainable Development Goals.

The internal initiatives of May include a Clean-Up Drive, Calamansi Site Revisiting, College Gazebo Transformation, and PSG Elections. The clean-up drive highlights the importance of maintaining a clean environment that's good for learning and bringing the Paulinian community together. This also includes going back to the Calamansi site behind the college building; revisiting the work of former NSTP students who planted the calamansi trees, keeping things sustainable and clean.

Furthermore, a project to transform the College Gazebo, beside the library, is underway. To improve a space that embodies the spirit of education and collaboration among Paulinians, helping them have a cozy space to collaborate and associate with their peers. This effort aims to ensure a functional environment by increasing the number of chairs and tables, ceiling fans, electric sockets, and establishing a bulletin board. Lastly, the initiative to increase leadership development through the annual PSG election, a platform for aspiring Paulinian leaders to step forward and contribute their vision and service to the Paulinian community, with the filing of candidacies this week.

The university also goes above and beyond in extending these service efforts beyond its campus walls to the broader community through external initiatives. It includes Clean-Up drives, Feeding Programs, Disaster Preparedness Seminar, and a Dengue Awareness Seminar. First on our list is a series of clean-up drives and feeding programs in Barangay Mandile and Sta. Ines both of which includes 300 households each. A Dengue Awareness Seminar would be provided to Brgy. Sta Ines, as they have acquired the highest amount of dengue cases in the municipality of San Miguel as per Rural Health Unit. They will then receive dengue awareness materials and kits, fostering a culture of health consciousness and disease prevention among its residents. On the other hand, Brgy. Mandile will receive a seminar focusing on Disaster Preparedness as it is the barangay most prone for flooding. They will be equipped with disaster preparedness materials and kits, empowering residents to proactively mitigate the impact of natural disasters and safeguard their community.

These initiatives exemplify a commitment to good governance by promoting the well-being and resilience not just to the campus but of local communities. Moreover, they emphasize a sense of social responsibility, recognizing the importance of collective action in addressing pressing societal issues and improving quality of life for all.
