DAY 2 - STA. INES

May 21, 2024

The St. Paul University at San Miguel (SPUSM), in collaboration with the GGSR students, has launched a series of community initiatives aimed at fostering unity, support, and growth within the local community of Sta Ines. These initiatives are designed to address various social, educational, and environmental needs, reflecting the spirit of service and community welfare.

As the sun began to rise over Brgy. Sta. Ines, a sense of purpose and dedication filled the air, radiating from the college students of St. Paul University San Miguel. Guided by their CHRIST-CENTERED values and a commitment to serving others, Paulinians showcase their commitment to embark on a meaningful mission. Equipped with gloves, sacks, and walis tingting, they gathered at the Sitio Balukok 2 and Kalye 22 area under the Sta. Ines to begin their clean-up effort. The students were diligent, not only picking up trash but also segregating it as they went, ensuring that recyclables were separated from non-recyclables. By taking such initiatives, SPUSM Kolehiyo are not only enhancing their educational experience but also making a tangible difference in their COMMUNITY.

In a dedicated effort to combat dengue fever, under the guidance of speakers Mrs. Rosario M. Maglaque and Ms. Patricia Anne Quimson from RHU, organized an informative seminar in Barangay Sta. Ines. The seminar also embodied the Paulinian value of COMMISSION by empowering the residents of Barangay Sta. Ines with practical tools and knowledge to combat dengue fever. This initiative demonstrated Paulinian CHARISM through compassionate outreach and education, aiming to uplift the community by addressing a critical health issue, aligning with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. The seminar aimed to educate the community about the dangers of dengue and how to prevent it. It also emphasized that dengue, which is transmitted by female mosquitoes, can occur during both the dry and rainy seasons, affecting anyone regardless of age or status. Participants learned cost-effective dengue prevention methods, including the 5S Strategy: Search and Destroy, Self-Protection, Seek Early Consultation, Support Fogging, and Sustain Hydration. While fogging was discussed, it was advised to use it sparingly and only in areas with confirmed dengue cases due to chemical concerns. This seminar successfully conveyed essential information to the residents of Barangay Sta. Ines, equipping them with knowledge and practical steps to protect themselves and their community from dengue fever.

After the dengue awareness seminar in Sta. Ines, organizers smoothly transitioned into conducting a feeding program, exemplifying the core principle of CHARITY, showcasing a selfless commitment to serving others in need. With meticulous planning and dedication, the volunteers served nutritious "Lugaw Itlog" and pandesal to participants, ensuring a seamless distribution process. The organizers gave not only food but also their time, energy, and care, affirming the dignity and worth of the recipients as fellow members of the community.

As the program commenced, the College Coordinator, Mr. Jose C. Lazaro Jr. extended his gratitude to each individual who showed their unwavering support towards the resounding success of this event. The day’s activities in Barangay Sta. Ines demonstrated the profound impact that faith-driven initiatives can have on both individuals and communities. The St. Paul University San Miguel students' efforts in cleaning the environment, educating residents about dengue fever, and providing nutritious meals serve as a testament to the enduring power of collective effort and compassionate service, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and contribute positively to their own communities.
