EVENTS

The Day of Valor or “Araw ng Kagitingan” is observed every 9th of April in the Philippines to honor the heroism and sacrifice of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II, particularly the Battle of Bataan. This year's theme “Pagpaparangal sa Kagitingan ng mga Beterano: Saligan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino” underscores the importance of commemorating our veterans' bravery and sacrifices in modern society. The main purpose is to increase Filipinos' respect for their liberties and unite them to build a better future.

The Battle of Bataan took place in 1978, when Filipino and American defenders fought bravely and showed patriotism against the Japanese forces despite being outnumbered and limited supply of battling resources. Filipino and American soldiers held their ground for several months, delaying the Japanese advance and buying time for Allied forces to regroup. However, due to being undersupplied and lack of reinforcements, the defenders of Bataan were forced to surrender. Thousands of Filipino and American prisoners of war were subjected to grueling conditions, brutality, and death as they were marched to prison camps, which is widely known today as Bataan Death March.
